About SlotMap

Last updated: May 2026 · Author: Giovanni Picaro, Editor-in-Chief

SlotMap is an independent online casino review publication for adult players who want clear, tested, honest information about where to play and where not to. We sign up at the casinos we review. We deposit real money. We play the games. We test customer support. We initiate withdrawals. We document the entire process in plain language — including the parts the casino’s marketing department would prefer we left out.

We are not a casino. We are not a betting operator. We do not accept deposits or process bets. We hold no gaming license, because we do not provide gaming services. We are an editorial publication that reviews companies that do.

How this site started

SlotMap was founded in early 2019 after several years inside the iGaming industry made one thing painfully clear: the open-web review landscape for online casinos was, with a few honorable exceptions, a wasteland. SEO-driven listicles ranked operators by affiliate commission rate. “Reviews” were rewrites of marketing copy. The industry’s actual unpleasantness — predatory bonus terms, abusive KYC processes, withdrawal slow-rolling, license-shopping — was largely absent from the search results.

The site started as a single long-form piece on what bonus terms actually mean (the notorious example: a 35x wagering requirement on the bonus and the deposit, with a maximum bet rule of €5 during bonus play and an “eligible games” list that excludes 80% of the slot library). Reader response confirmed the obvious: players want this information, they cannot find it easily, and they are punished by its absence.

Seven years later, we are still writing for the same reader: the adult who wants to play online for entertainment, who wants to make informed choices, and who has a low tolerance for affiliate-laundered marketing.

What we publish

Editorial content on SlotMap falls into five categories:

  • Casino reviews — structured assessments of individual operators across license verification, sign-up flow, deposit options, game library, bonus terms read in full, customer support response, withdrawal speed, KYC process, and complaint history. The methodology is on How We Test; the framework is on Casino Review Policy.
  • Bonus deconstructions — long-form analyses of welcome offers, reload bonuses, free spin packages, and VIP programs, with explicit translation of the small print into plain language.
  • Provider profiles — coverage of game studios (NetEnt, Microgaming, Pragmatic Play, Evolution, and others) including provable RTP ranges, licensing of the studio itself, and patterns we’ve observed across their game libraries.
  • License and jurisdiction explainers — what UKGC, MGA, ADM, Gibraltar, Curaçao, and other licensing actually mean for player protection, and how operator behavior tends to differ across tiers.
  • Player protection content — substantial coverage of responsible gambling tools, self-exclusion programs, complaint procedures, and the resources available when something goes wrong. See our Responsible Gambling page.

Who runs the site

The editorial team is small and stable. Giovanni Picaro, the founder and Editor-in-Chief, spent five years in VIP customer support inside the iGaming industry, working with high-value players for an EU-licensed operator group. The experience — seeing the inside of bonus systems, KYC reviews, payment processing, and player-protection tools — is the foundation of how this site reviews operators. Marcus T. is our senior reviewer for UK and Maltese-licensed operators, with a decade in the industry and a focus on UKGC and MGA license obligations. Elena V. leads our compliance and responsible-gambling coverage from a Malta base, with a background in iGaming compliance work.

What we believe about casino review writing

Four principles shape what we publish.

First, licensed operators only. We will not review or recommend unlicensed casinos. We cover Curaçao-licensed operators with explicit caveats about player protection, but we do not promote operators outside any regulatory framework. The license tier system is described on our How We Test page.

Second, read the bonus terms aloud. Most of the worst experiences players have with online casinos trace back to bonus terms they did not fully read. Our reviews quote the bonus terms, translate them, and identify the specific clauses that most often catch players out. Where terms are abusive in our judgment, we say so plainly.

Third, the editorial wall is real. Affiliate commissions do not influence editorial verdicts. Where we have an active commercial relationship with a reviewed operator, we disclose it at the top of the review. We have published “not recommended” verdicts on operators we have affiliate relationships with, and we will continue to do so. The framework is on Editorial Standards.

Fourth, player protection is structural, not ornamental. Responsible gambling messaging on this site is not a footer disclaimer; it is integrated throughout the editorial work. We treat gambling as adult entertainment for those who can afford to lose what they spend, not as a financial strategy. We are honest about the house edge. We are explicit about who should not be playing. See our Responsible Gambling page for the full position.

Where we are based

SlotMap is operationally distributed across Europe. The publisher is registered in Italy. Lead editorial work is done from Sofia and Malta. Reviews are produced in English for an international adult audience in jurisdictions where online gambling is legal. We do not accept readers from jurisdictions where online gambling participation is unlawful; see our Age Verification & Restricted Jurisdictions page.

What we will not do

To remove ambiguity:

  • We will not review or recommend unlicensed operators.
  • We will not minimize bonus terms or omit unfavorable clauses.
  • We will not write content that targets self-excluded players, problem gamblers, or minors.
  • We will not run “exclusive” bonuses without verifying they are genuinely better than the publicly available offer.
  • We will not generate content with AI and pass it off as human reviewing. See AI Usage Policy.
  • We will not publish content in jurisdictions where this site or its target operators are not lawfully accessible.
  • We will not let an operator buy a positive review.

Reader recourse

If you believe you have been harmed by an operator we have reviewed, please tell us. Reader-reported complaints are factored into our ongoing assessments and can lead to verdict changes, and they may justify a public correction or warning. The process is on our Corrections Policy.

If you are struggling with gambling, please use the resources on our Responsible Gambling page. Help is free and confidential.
